VBL CUP WEEK 4

Just when it seemed like the Venice Basketball League couldn't get any more competitive, Week 4 raised the bar once again.
New faces made an immediate impact, LA In A Minute was knocked off its throne, and one of the most thrilling championship games of the summer brought the Venice Beach crowd to its feet. By the end of the afternoon, Mecca emerged as the last team standing, capturing its first VBL Cup of the season behind a dominant performance from the unstoppable Hezi God.
Here's how Week 4 unfolded:
Little Legends vs. Cough Syrup
Making its VBL debut, Little Legends wasted no time announcing its arrival.
The newcomers played with confidence from the opening possession, knocking off Cough Syrup 21-16 to advance to the semifinals. Their balanced offense and relentless energy immediately made them a team to watch.
Timeless vs. Venice
The two-time VBL Cup champions looked every bit the part in their opening game.
Timeless defeated Venice 23-16, closing the game with an ISO Card possession. After E-5's attempt came up short, Tre Duval cleaned up the miss to seal another convincing victory.
BBall Junkies vs. LA in a Min
If there was an upset of the day before the championship, this was it.
Locked in a defensive battle, the game entered extra time tied at 14-14. With the defending champions on the ropes, Chris Staples delivered the shot of the tournament, drilling an outrageous three-pointer from well beyond the arc to send BBall Junkies into the semifinals with a stunning 16-14 victory over LA in a Min.
Mecca vs. Gold Coast
When Gold Coast closes its eyes after this one, the’ll probably still see Hezi God attacking the rim.
Mecca's star was simply unstoppable, slicing through defenders, finishing at the basket with ease and stacking ISO Card after ISO Card in one of the day's most dominant individual performances.
Gold Coast kept things competitive until the closing possessions, but Hezi God proved too much to handle as Mecca escaped with a 24-21 victory.
Semifinals
Little Legends vs. Timeless
The Cinderella story continued.
After knocking off Cough Syrup earlier in the day, Little Legends stunned the two-time defending champions with a gritty 21-18 victory. Timeless controlled much of the early action, but Little Legends stayed composed, battled back, and closed the game strong to eliminate the tournament favorites.
Mecca vs. BBall Junkies
BBall Junkies leaned on Vic Costa to keep pace, but Mecca's firepower was simply too much.
Once again, Hezi God led the way as Mecca controlled the game from start to finish, earning a 19-14 victory that never truly felt in doubt. The win set up a championship showdown between the veteran Mecca squad and the tournament's surprise team, Little Legends.
Championship: Mecca vs. Little Legends
Basketball doesn't get much better than this.
In what may go down as one of the best games Venice Beach has seen all summer, Little Legends and Mecca traded blows for nearly every possession. Physical defense, clutch shot-making and relentless intensity defined a championship worthy of the packed crowd surrounding every inch of the blacktop.
Little Legends grabbed an early three-point advantage, but Mecca answered immediately. From there, neither team could create much separation, with every basket matched by another on the opposite end.
As the game reached its final moments tied at 23-23, every possession felt like it could decide the championship. Hard fouls, lockdown defense and relentless effort turned the closing minutes into a battle of pure will.
When the moment demanded a hero, Hezi God delivered one final time.
With the championship hanging in the balance, he attacked the rim, finished through traffic and scored the game-winning layup to give Mecca a 24-23 victory and its first VBL Cup championship of the season.
An instant Venice Beach classic. A New Champion. A new storyline headed into next week.
Celeb All Star Game
Following the championship thriller, the action was far from over.
Fans packed around the court for the Dr. Bombay x Veniceball National Ice Cream Day All-Star Game, where celebrities from across the entertainment world squared off against some of Veniceball's top players. What started as a fun exhibition quickly turned competitive, with the celebrity squad pulling away for a 15-12 victory to cap off another unforgettable afternoon on the blacktop.
Veniceball's historic summer continues this weekend with a change of scenery. For the first time this season, the VBL Cup heads to the Great Park in Irvine on Sunday, July 26, bringing the league's signature energy beyond Venice Beach for what promises to be another exciting day of street basketball.
