VENICEBALL CELEBRATES 20 YEARS WITH LEGENDS WEEKEND AT THE ICONIC VENICE BEACH COURTS

Ron Beals Day aka Legends Weekend is back closes the summer season in style

VENICE BEACH, Calif. — The Venice Basketball League (VBL), presented by New Balance Basketball, featuring legends like Skip to my Lou & Bone Collector celebrates its 20th Anniversary with Legends Weekend, a two-day program full of basketball, culture, music, and community at the legendary Venice Beach Basketball Courts on Saturday, August 8, and Sunday, August 9.

The weekend celebrates everything Venice Basketball has become over the past two decades—a place where legends are made, communities are built, and the game transcends generations. The celebration culminates with Ron Beals Day, honoring the visionary whose passion helped preserve one of the most iconic outdoor basketball courts in the world.

For one unforgettable weekend, VBL will honor the legends of the past, celebrate the legends of today, and introduce the legends of tomorrow.

For 20 years, Venice Beach has been basketball's ultimate proving ground. From NBA and WNBA legends to Olympians, streetball icons, entertainers, and future stars, generations have stepped onto these courts chasing the same thing—respect. As every basketball fan knows, you never know who might show up at Venice.

SATURDAY, AUGUST 8 | WOMEN'S LEGENDS DAY

4:00 PM – 10:00 PM

Hosted by Cassy Athena and Clara Bourrat hi, Women's Legends Day shines a spotlight on the women who continue to elevate the game on and off the court. The evening features the 15U Girls All-Star Game, the Future Legends Showcase (18U), the Venice Women's League vs Womens Drew League finale , appearances by WNBA legends, live entertainment, and a celebration of the next generation of women's basketball.

SUNDAY, AUGUST 9 | RON BEALS DAY

10:00 AM – 10:00 PM

Ron Beals Day begins with a free youth clinic hosted by social media star Tristan Jass, NBA greats Craig Smith & Cedric Ceballos & streetball legend Skip to My Lou before rolling into a full day of basketball and community featuring the OG Legends 40+ & 50+ Tournament, Community Awards Ceremony, Three-Point Shootout, the legendary Venice Beach Dunk Contest hosted by Kadour Ziani, Celebrity Game coached by Grayson "The Professor" Boucher, live performances from D Smoke & Compton AV, and the VBL Championship Cup Finals, where the summer's best teams battle to Capture the Cup and the ultimate bragging rights.

The Dunk Contest will feature an international lineup including Mattia MeneGhini (Italy), Amir Smith, Leaky Roof, Zer0 Gravity, Justin Holiday, and judged by the Dunkfather Kadour Ziani, Cedric Ceballos, Robin "Sik Wit It" Kennedy, Josiah Johnson, and more.

Presented by New Balance Basketball, Legends Weekend reflects a shared commitment to growing the game through authentic community experiences while creating opportunities for the next generation of athletes. From Venice Beach to Germany, Paris, Manila, Mexico City, and beyond, the Venice Basketball movement continues to prove that basketball has no borders—but its heart will always be found on the blacktop where it all began.

Following Sunday's festivities, players, partners, and special guests will gather for an invite-only Legends After Party at Hoopers Paradise, the Venice Basketball League's flagship retail store directly across from the courts, celebrating twenty years of unforgettable moments and looking ahead to the next chapter.
