What a fantastic day we had once again. Special thanks to Gil llewellyn for coming to teach the kids special ball handling skills and to Pat from the RVCA surf team to take his time and come to teach the kids some surfing. We had so much fun, the water was warm and the sun came out just on time.

VBL games started with an all star presentation of Free Agents VS U.N. with lots high flying action and poster dunks… here is a preview, stay tuned for highlights…

First Semi-Finals game was Team Advantage who ran a fundamental basketball clinic against Hollywood Hoops and came up with an easy win. Unfortunately  losers have to go home. Its been a great season for Hollywizzle and his superstar crew. Team Advantage just plays so well together and play basketball to the perfection and are the #1 contenders to win the finals next week

The game that everyone was waiting for was the rematch of the two home teams Venice All Stars and Mean Ones who always play with great passion and hate each other. The game was down to the wire but the world champions found a way to pull it off in the end…

It’s getting down to the nitty gritty, as many of the VBL teams have already been eliminated.  The day went by quickly because there was just 1 exhibition game and 2 semi-final games.  Still DB & I had a ball hosting!

Exhibition Game: UNITED NATIONS vs. FREE AGENT ALL STARS – Players that didn’t make the playoffs were allowed to join the Free Agents today to give the U.N. a run for their money.  This game turned out to be a close competition, but UNITED NATIONS still came out on top. Don’t underestimate Handsome Ansom & his internationional crew.  Here’s a pic of both teams.

GAME 1: HOLLYWOOD HOOPS vs. TEAM ADVANTAGE - The #4 seat, Hollywood Hoops, didn’t stand a chance against the super undefeated #1 team.  This game was truly a blow out!  Which is too bad ’cause I really like Hollywizzle & his team.  But The White Shadow and his crew are very good at kicking butt and taking names. Congratulations to TEAM ADVANTAGE for making it to next week’s finals.

Game 2: VENICE ALL STARS vs. THE MEAN ONES - These are 2 of my favorite VBL teams.  And if anyone can take the crown from the All Stars (besides Team Advantage), it would be The Grinch and his goons.  Jon Nash promised his All Stars would beat all the remaining teams by 20 points, however The Mean Ones did not go down without a fight.  When it was all said and done, the VENICE ALL STARS won by only 4 points.  Kudos to the reigning champs.  See ya next year, Mean Ones.

By popular demand we have decided to extend our SUMMER CAMP one more week for our 11th edition. We wish to invite all the kids to participate in this FREE camp that will teach kids great new things and give them memories of a lifetime.

KVBL kids are exposed to: Yoga instruction from world-renowned Yoga teachers; basketball lessons with
some of the League’s premier players and other celebrities; fitness facts and
training from Vegan nutrition professionals and organic breakfasts and lunches, prepared by the children
themselves under the supervision of nutrition experts. This Saturday the RVCA surf team and KVBL staff will be there to teach the kids fundamentals of surfing in shallow waters.

It is the goal of The KVBL to provide experiences for children that
empower them to cultivate a healthy lifestyle, gain confidence in themselves and
each other, and truly become the “Natural Leaders” of their own communities.
The KVBL promotes teamwork through basketball and introduces kids to healthy
diets, exercise, holistic healing, leadership, sustainability and organic culture.

HOPE EVERYONE CAN JOIN US

All summer long has led up to these next few weeks; The Playoffs. Today is where we begin to separate the men from the boys. And as usual, DB, Mouthpiece, & I had a wonderful time commentating the festivities.

Game 1: TEAM ADVANTAGE vs. SKID ROW - There’s no surprise that the #1 seat prevailed over the #8 contender.  I didn’t get a picture of them this week, but just know that the extremely undefeated TEAM ADVANTAGE won AGAIN and set the pace for rest of the day.

Game 2: VENICE ALL STARS vs. SUNBLOCK – This had to be the most talked about game of the day! The #7 seat (Sunblock) was not intimidated to play the #2 seat AT ALL!  Matisse & his boys played very tough ball and had the lead over the VBL Champs during most of this game.  But after a great deal of tension and controversial referee calls, the VENICE ALL STARS managed to squeeze out another win.  Wayta go, All Stars!

Game 3: THE MEAN ONES vs. UNITED NATIONS - As expected, THE MEAN ONES (the #3 seat) beat UNITED NATIONS (the #6 seat).  But the U.N.’s Primetime got The Dunk of the Day when he put his crouch in Hairline’s face under the basket! Great game!  Congrats to The Grinch & his guys for moving forward.

Game 4: HOLLYWOOD HOOPS vs. KILL THE HYPE - This was an interesting match-up because K-Money was originally a member of Hollywood Hoops before he broke away to start Kill The Hype.  So both of these teams are familar with one another and excel in fancy Harlem Globetrotter-type moves. However, Hollywizzle & his boys cut out the tricks, picked up NBA star Juaquin Hawkins, & just played good basketball. Even though Kill The Hype was up 18-10, they lost the lead and now HOLLYWOOD HOOPS is just one game away from the finals…Oh and Jauquin says he’s gonna shut down the White Shadow of Team Advantage next week!  We shall see.

Great series of game Sunday. Hollywood Hoops, Team Advantage, Venice All-Stars and The Mean Ones are moving to Semi Finals this Saturday the 4th of September. NBA star Juaquin Hawkins officially joined Hollywood Hoops. You do not want to miss it.

Our usual court was taken over by the 4th Annual Supergirl Jam, so this week we were lucky enough to use the Legendary Court.  Without DJs, music, or microphones, DB, Mouthpiece, & I took it old school and used our lungs to host. The games & crowds were so intense that I dare to say this was the BEST episode of VBL ever!

Game 1: KILL THE HYPE vs. THE FREE AGENTS –  K-Money and his Hyped players are sooo much fun to watch, but Vic Battle & his FREE AGENTS came to win!

Game 2: SUNBLOCK vs. VENICE HEAT - I adore Sunblock, and I just KNEW they were gonna win this game. But finally my VENICE HEAT firemen showed up and got The W.  Yaaay!

Game 3: UNITED NATIONS vs. HOLLYWOOD HOOPS – This game was so dope ’cause our legendary host DB suited up & played with Hollywizzle’s team.  After all the mess DB talks on the mic, everyone was anxious to see if he himself had any b-ball skills.  And guess what? DB can ball!  His presence was definitely noticed & HOLLYWOOD HOOPS won the game.

Game 4: VENICE ALL STARS vs. THE MEAN ONES – I loved this match-up because both of these teams are super talented and have a chance at the trophy.  Plus our other host, Mouthpiece, suited up & joined The Grinch’s Mean team.  Unfortunately, all their talent & mean efforts weren’t enough to stop The Beast & his all stars.  Jon Nash’s VENICE ALL STARS whooped the Mean Ones by 15 points.  Ouch.

Game 5: SKID ROW vs. THE BARTENDERS – I was helping the models rehearse for next week’s fashion show during this game.  But I know SKID ROW won, and that’s all that matters.  Congrats to the row!
