Tanjareen on Episode 10: THE SEMI-FINALS

It’s getting down to the nitty gritty, as many of the VBL teams have already been eliminated.  The day went by quickly because there was just 1 exhibition game and 2 semi-final games.  Still DB & I had a ball hosting!

Exhibition Game: UNITED NATIONS vs. FREE AGENT ALL STARS – Players that didn’t make the playoffs were allowed to join the Free Agents today to give the U.N. a run for their money.  This game turned out to be a close competition, but UNITED NATIONS still came out on top. Don’t underestimate Handsome Ansom & his internationional crew.  Here’s a pic of both teams.

GAME 1: HOLLYWOOD HOOPS vs. TEAM ADVANTAGE - The #4 seat, Hollywood Hoops, didn’t stand a chance against the super undefeated #1 team.  This game was truly a blow out!  Which is too bad ’cause I really like Hollywizzle & his team.  But The White Shadow and his crew are very good at kicking butt and taking names. Congratulations to TEAM ADVANTAGE for making it to next week’s finals.

Game 2: VENICE ALL STARS vs. THE MEAN ONES - These are 2 of my favorite VBL teams.  And if anyone can take the crown from the All Stars (besides Team Advantage), it would be The Grinch and his goons.  Jon Nash promised his All Stars would beat all the remaining teams by 20 points, however The Mean Ones did not go down without a fight.  When it was all said and done, the VENICE ALL STARS won by only 4 points.  Kudos to the reigning champs.  See ya next year, Mean Ones.

Shots-out to LIVITY OUTERNATIONAL for sponsoring this episode & donating sustainable clothing for our free-throw contest. They gave me this groovy tanjareen hat too.

Thanks to SCRATCH ACADEMY for DJ-ing the games.

My sister Taj-Zsa and her friend Eboni enjoyed the games.

I want the po-pos to make a VBL team against the Fire Dept.

Tanjareen on episode 8: LEGEND’S DAY

Our usual court was taken over by the 4th Annual Supergirl Jam, so this week we were lucky enough to use the Legendary Court.  Without DJs, music, or microphones, DB, Mouthpiece, & I took it old school and used our lungs to host. The games & crowds were so intense that I dare to say this was the BEST episode of VBL ever!

Game 1: KILL THE HYPE vs. THE FREE AGENTS –  K-Money and his Hyped players are sooo much fun to watch, but Vic Battle & his FREE AGENTS came to win!

Game 2: SUNBLOCK vs. VENICE HEAT - I adore Sunblock, and I just KNEW they were gonna win this game. But finally my VENICE HEAT firemen showed up and got The W.  Yaaay!

Game 3: UNITED NATIONS vs. HOLLYWOOD HOOPS – This game was so dope ’cause our legendary host DB suited up & played with Hollywizzle’s team.  After all the mess DB talks on the mic, everyone was anxious to see if he himself had any b-ball skills.  And guess what? DB can ball!  His presence was definitely noticed & HOLLYWOOD HOOPS won the game.

Game 4: VENICE ALL STARS vs. THE MEAN ONES – I loved this match-up because both of these teams are super talented and have a chance at the trophy.  Plus our other host, Mouthpiece, suited up & joined The Grinch’s Mean team.  Unfortunately, all their talent & mean efforts weren’t enough to stop The Beast & his all stars.  Jon Nash’s VENICE ALL STARS whooped the Mean Ones by 15 points.  Ouch.

Game 5: SKID ROW vs. THE BARTENDERS – I was helping the models rehearse for next week’s fashion show during this game.  But I know SKID ROW won, and that’s all that matters.  Congrats to the row!

The models rehearse for the Hoopshots Fashion Show

My little sister Taj-Zsa came to support again

Handsome Ansom gets a double massage DURING his game!

The Mean Ones looking mean.

Venice Beach Hosts 4th Annual Supergirl Jam Venice Beach Hosts 4th Annual Supergirl Jam

The girls have officially taken over our courts this Sunday and they will show us why they are the man. You do not want to miss this… and we will be playing right next door

The 4th annual Supergirl Jam is making its last stop in Venice Beach this weekend and they’re doing it in style. Among action sports’ top female skateboarders, snowboarders, and inline skaters will be the likes of Olympic gold medalist Nastia Liukin and Nitro Circus star Jolene Van Vugt.

This year’s Supergirl Jam Skateboard Street contest welcomes the return of the 2008 Supergirl Jam Skateboard Champion, Huntington Beach’s Lauren Perkins, against a talented field which includes defending champion Amy Caron (Huntington Beach, CA) and 2010 X Games medalists Leticia Bufoni (Sao Paulo, Brazil) and Alexis Slabone (New York). The ladies will showcase their skateboard skills on a custom-built course consisting of mobile skateboard street elements set up next to the beach.

Starting atop a mountain of 80,000 pounds of snow, snowboarding’s best female pros will display their most innovative tricks in the Supergirl Snowboard Rail Jam — sure to be the most amazing spectacle on the beach! Laurie Currier (Wrightwood, CA) has dominated the competition two years running, handily winning the overall top prize and the best trick contests in 2008 and 2009. This year, however, she’ll face the largest field of competitors to date as she seeks a third consecutive gold medal.

Tanjareen on Episode 7

Episode 7 of the VBL was AWESOME. DB, Mouthpiece, and I had a great time hosting!

Game 1: TEAM ADVANTAGE vs. THE FRAT – Brian McKnight, his son Plastic Man, & Pretty Boy Bo played their hearts out.  In fact, B-Knight landed several long jumpshots in a row! Yet they were still no match for TEAM ADVANTAGE and their big White Shadow.

Game 2: UNITED NATIONS vs THE BARTENDERS – I guess THE BARTENDERS were drunk ’cause they couldn’t get past Handsome Ansom and The Dragon of UNITED NATIONS.  Don’t sleep on this culturally-diverse team.

Game 3: VENICE HEAT vs. THE MEAN ONES – I love firemen, so I really want the VENICE HEAT to succeed, but at this point, I’m not sure why they keep showing up if they’re not gonna really ball.  The Grinch and his MEAN ONES did what they do best, scare off the competition.

Game 4: VENICE ALL STARS vs. HOLLYWOOD HOOPS – I’m a huge fan of Hollywizzle and his team, but it seems like they gave up at the beginning of this game.  THE VENICE ALL STARS whooped them by 20 points!  In fact, Jon Nash says his ALL STARS are going to beat everyone by 20 points and win the VBL championship once again!  They even took the trophy and posed with it on the court!  Is anyone gonna contest these guys?  Can The Beast really guard the White Shadow of the undefeated TEAM ADVANTAGE?

Game 5: SUNBLOCK vs. KILL THEY HYPE – It was my understanding that KILL THE HYPE was created to stop VENICE ALL STARS from winning the crown every year, but these HYPE guys won’t even make it to the finals. However SUNBLOCK was a great match-up for them and went on to “kill” THE HYPE in a very close and entertaining compettion.  And DB was hilarious while commentating this grand finale game!

The weather was cold, but the players were HOT!

Look, they’re pierced!

Yummy Angels!

Don’t worry fellas.  I got one for you too.  VBL booty shorts. :-P

The VBL is great family fun! Here we are with Nick’s mom & my sister Taj-Zsa.

DB the Don.

Tanjareen on skates at the Nike 3on3!

Last weekend’s Nike 3on3 Tournament was so much fun! Located on the streets of the Staples Center; the weather, the sponsors, the Scratch Academy DJs, the performers, the skills contests, and the games were incredible.  And Saturday’s Slam Dunk contest was BANANAS!  Waaaay better than what the NBA All Stars have shown us lately (take notes, Shannon Brown).  Big shout-out to Mouthpiece for emceeing the dunks, & to Airdogg for being the only contestant there to rep California.

This year’s 3on3 match-ups were intense. DB & I had a wonderful time hosting them!  The VBL had several very talented teams involved & ALL our guys played hard.  (Shout-out to Team Advantage, The Mean Ones, Sunblock, VBL Hoop Hogz, VBL NoTikiTak, Venice Ballers, Mostly Retired, & The BallPlayers).  It’s no surprise to me that a group of OUR guys won it all. Congratulations to the VBL Goon Squad (& their obvious MVP, Shakes)!  They played 7 games in 2 days & won over $10,000 in cash & prizes each…and with a FEMALE coach!  I am sooo proud of the VBL!!!
