The Kids Venice Basketball League: Natural Leaders

“Kids Venice Basketball League (KVBL) uses basketball as a catalyst to create a safe environment for youth around the globe, promoting healthy diets, leadership, exercise, and sustainable living.”

Building upon its tradition of unity and taking advantage of the family
atmosphere of Venice Beach, The VBL founded The Kids Venice Basketball
League (KVBL) in 2007, a non-profit collaborative committed to empowering the
under-privileged children of Los Angeles with essential, healthy life and basketball
skills. Being a part of the “Natural Leaders Camp for Kids,” children from various parts
of inner-city Los Angeles are bussed to the Venice courts. Every Sunday morning for ten weeks, they participate in a health and
leadership program before the VBL games begin.

At no cost to the children or their families, KVBL kids are exposed to the following: Yoga instruction from world-renowned Yoga masters; basketball lessons with some of the League’s premiere players and other celebrities; fitness facts and training from Vegan nutrition professionals; weekly take-home health and fitness challenges; and organic breakfasts and lunches prepared on site by gourmet chefs showing the kids the simplicity of eating healthy.
The boys and girls of the camp are also given the opportunity to play at the half time of one of the featured league games each Sunday, allowing them to shine at the VBL tournament.

It is the goal of the KVBL to provide experiences for children that empower them to cultivate a healthy lifestyle, gain confidence in themselves and
each other, and truly become the “Natural Leaders” of their own communities. The KVBL promotes teamwork through basketball and introduces kids to healthy
diets, exercise, leadership, agriculture, and sustainable living. At the end of ten weeks, children return to their communities with the drive to share
their knowledge with friends and family members, helping to stimulate the way the next generation will think about the planet.
